CARE OF THE MOUTH FOLLOWING PLACEMENT OF IMMEDIATE
DENTURES
• Remove the denture to cleanse mouth and denture. Replace immediately, swelling
may occur and you may be unable to reinsert denture.
• Swelling and discomfort are to be expected after extractions.
• Bleeding following surgery is normal. The denture will act as a bandage.
• Your bite is usually imperfect when the denture is first delivered. Refinement of
the bite will occur after several adjustments.
• When the doctor instructs (usually 2 to 6 weeks after insertion), begin removing
your denture at night and store them in water.
• Tissue under the denture will recontour over a period of 6-12 months and the fit
of your denture will be affected. They should be reevaluated in 4 to 6 months and
will probably require relining once tissue shrinkage has slowed.
• If you are concerned about any event following placement of denture please call
promptly. 706-219-0033
